What’s the only thing that could get hoarders, single ladies, animal breeders, professional witches, Japanophiles, Exotic Joe voters, and Instagram famous cats into one room? Cat Camp, which calls itself New York City’s “first feline-focused symposium” is coming the the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea on Saturday, March 11, and Sunday, March 12, for a weekend-long program ranging from serious discussions led by cat experts to a meet-n’-greet with celebrity cat Lil Bub.

If you’re a proud cat lady or call yourself an unabashedly freaky cat bro, or maybe you’re just curious about issues like the displacement of Greenpoint’s feral cats, you should probably, definitely check this thing out. And trust us, the owners of your local bodega will be over the moon when they hear that you’ll be occupied for two whole days, leaving them free from harassment (hey man, those cats are on the clock).

Participating experts include keynote speaker Jackson Galaxy (aka “The Cat Daddy”), who has been dubbed a “cat whisperer” for his ability to trick cats into acting all crazy like a buncha dogs or something. Adam Myatt of Cat Town Oakland and NYC cat cafe owner Christina Ha of Meow Parlour will lead a discussion about cat cafes. They admittedly have the potential to be really, really bad situations for cats, but spots like Meow Parlour are actually promoting adoption, as opposed to just employing cats as indentured entertainers. Similar concerns of exploitation have been raised with regard to celebrity cats, which is almost certainly a topic that will be covered by Lil Bub and Mike Bridavksy (Buzzfeed has confirmed that Lil Bub’s “dude” is, in fact, “hot,” so bring your paper fans, ladies). Adoption organizations like The Paw Project will be on hand too, and a discussion called “Saving Lives: Cat Rescue” is scheduled for Sunday.

And because this is America and we are a Christian nation, visitors can shop the special cat-centric market for the whole weekend too. “Dozens” of vendors, with excellent names such as Pussweek, Shred My Couch, and Meow United, will be hawking their wares.

If you are still having a hard time picturing what this Cat Camp is all about, imagine a cross between Comic Con and an academic gathering like the American Culture Association National Conference (involving professors who teach classes like “D.C. in the History of Punk Music” and “Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyoncé”) only everyone is there “to celebrate all things cat.”

Pretty much, this is gonna be heaven for cat freaks and a support group for those of us suffering from T. gonddi (nbd or anything, it’s just the parasite that inevitably people who have regular close contact with cat poo are gonna contract, and that some researchers suspect might cause a bunch of crazy symptoms including obsessive attraction to cats). And there’s no question what the room will smell like by the end of the weekend.

Cat Camp is happening Saturday March 11 and Sunday March 12 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Check out the full schedule of events for more info.
